Paris 2024: Christy Ucheibe proffers solution to Nigeria chance of beating Japan

Nigeria midfielder Christy Ucheibe believes her team must set themselves up well in the final third to be able to beat 2011 Women’s World Cup winners, Japan on Wednesday.

The two teams will square up in the final Group C encounter which will determine the sides that will progress to the quarter final.

Super Falcons narrowly lost their opening two games 1-0 to Brazil and Spain and need a win by a two-goal margin to stand any chance of progressing from the group stage.

“I am not going to say I’m disappointed. I think it is football, but the only thing I’m going to say is that we need to step up in the next game and make sure we win Japan. That’s all I can say,” Ucheibe told www.totorinews.com

“There is hope that we can still qualify. I think we need to utilize our chances against our opponents.

“We must score goals to win, and we do everything possible, and when we get to the final third, we need to be clinical at the final third.” She added.

The nine-time African champions hope to pick their first win at the Olympics since 2004 but go into this match with an unenviable record.

Over 11 games at the Olympics, the Super Falcons have lost ten and only won a match against Japan.

Any form of result apart from a loss today will help change the Olympic form of Randy Waldrum’s side.
