FIFA Rankings: Super Falcons maintain position after Olympics campaign

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team maintained their 36th position on the latest FIFA rankings released on Friday.
The nine-time African champions remained the top-ranked women’s national team in Africa despite three losses in their group stage campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Randy Waldrum’s side returned to the Olympics since 2008 and succumbed to losses against silver medalist Brazil, world champions Spain, and 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup winners Japan at the group stage.
African champions South Africa, which Nigeria defeated to make it to the Olympics, moved a place to the 50th position on the rankings and second on the continent above Morocco in the 59th spot.
Zambia, the second African representative at the Olympics moved two places to the 62nd position and fourth in Africa.
Ghana dropped two spots to 66th on the global ranking and fifth best in Africa.
Cameron (69), Cote D’Ivoire (71), Tunisia (78), Mali (81), and two-time African champions Equatorial Guinea (82) complete the top 10 ranked women’s football teams in Africa.
The next and last rankings for the year will be released in December after the final window for friendly games.
