By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ivory Coast U20 have emerged as champions of the WAFU Zone B U20 Boys Tournament, following a dramatic 1-0 win over Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in Wednesday’s final.

In a tense and tightly contested encounter, the breakthrough came in the 93rd minute when Zakaria Tindano capitalized on a costly error by the Nigerian goalkeeper to fire home the decisive goal.

The heartbreaking late strike denied Nigeria a chance at glory and sealed a perfect tournament campaign for Ivory Coast, who lifted the regional title with a 100% winning record, having won all their matches without conceding a single defeat or draw.

The match, held in front of a lively crowd, showcased the grit and determination of both West African powerhouses.

While Nigeria fought valiantly and created scoring opportunities, they were unable to break down the disciplined Ivorian defense.

Ivory Coast’s consistent and composed performances throughout the competition underlined their status as the standout team of the tournament, and their triumph cements their place as a rising force in youth football on the continent.

Flying Eagles shift focus to the next FIFA U-20 World Cup with the aim of becoming the second African team after Ghana to clinch the title.
