Real Madrid to unveil Denzel Dumfries at Valdebebas after triggering €20m release clause

Real Madrid will present new signing Denzel Dumfries at their Valdebebas training complex next Tuesday, 28 July, after completing a €20m move for the Netherlands international from Inter Milan.

The right-back, 30, has signed a contract with the La Liga runners-up running until 30 June 2030, according to journalist Ben Fernandez Santos, who specialises in Real Madrid news.

The unveiling will take place at the club’s Ciudad Real Madrid facilities in Valdebebas rather than at the Santiago Bernabeu, where Real traditionally stage presentations for some of their most high-profile recruits.

Dumfries set for battle with Alexander-Arnold

Dumfries is expected to compete directly for a starting spot with England international Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid this summer after leaving Liverpool.

The Dutch defender arrives after Real Madrid activated the release clause in his Inter Milan contract, set at €20m, to secure his transfer during the current window.

His signing reinforces the right side of Real Madrid’s defence as the club look to build on last season’s second-place finish in La Liga and strengthen their options in both domestic and European competition.

Inter career and honours

Dumfries joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2021 from PSV Eindhoven and went on to become a key figure at San Siro.

Over three seasons with the Italian club, he played more than 200 matches in all competitions, contributing at both ends of the pitch and helping Inter win the Serie A title.

He was also part of the Inter side that reached the 2024-25 Champions League final, where the Italian club faced Paris Saint-Germain before Dumfries completed his move to Madrid.

Long-term commitment in Madrid

By tying Dumfries to a four-year deal, Real Madrid have underlined their intention to rely on the defender over the medium term as they reshape their back line.

The presentation at Valdebebas is expected to include the traditional photo opportunity with Real president Florentino Perez, a shirt unveiling and a first appearance for Dumfries in front of the media as a Real Madrid player.

The club have not announced any changes to their pre-season schedule around the event, with Dumfries set to integrate into preparations ahead of the new campaign following his official introduction on Tuesday.
