Nigerian Centre-Back Nduka Junior Emerges as MC Algiers Target from Al-Najaf FC

Nigeria defender Nduka Junior of Al-Najaf FC is being linked with a move to Algerian top-flight side MC Algiers, with the Ligue 1 club understood to be tracking the 22-year-old centre-back. The Lagos-born player, who operates primarily at the heart of defence, has a current market valuation of around €150,000 and is viewed as a realistic acquisition for the Algiers outfit as they look to strengthen their back line.

Junior only joined Iraqi club Al-Najaf on 29 January 2026 and wears the number 2 shirt for the side. His quick emergence as a potential transfer option for MC Algiers indicates that the defender has adapted swiftly to his new surroundings, having made the step from Nigerian domestic football earlier this year.

The right-footed centre-back has already experienced success in his home country, winning the Nigerian championship in the 2024-25 season with Remo Stars FC. That title-winning campaign has added weight to his profile as clubs in North Africa monitor talent from the Nigerian league.

At 1.81m tall and still only 22, Junior fits the profile of a player who could offer both immediate competition and longer-term depth in defence. While there is no indication yet of a formal bid or agreed fee, MC Algiers’ interest comes at a time when Al-Najaf must weigh the prospect of losing a defender they have held for less than a full year, with his current contract details not publicly disclosed.
