Houston 2 sign American-Nigerian defender Chibuike Ukaegbu from Sacramento FC

American-Nigerian centre-back Chibuike Ukaegbu has joined Houston 2 from Sacramento FC, completing his move to the MLS Next Pro club on 21 August 2026.

Ukaegbu, 19, has signed a contract with Houston 2 that runs until 30 June 2028. The Roseville, California-born defender arrives after making 16 appearances for Sacramento FC across the USL Championship, USL Cup and US Open Cup during the 2026 season.

The centre-back featured 12 times in the USL Championship, along with two appearances in each of the USL Cup and US Open Cup. He did not score in those competitions.

Ukaegbu’s move takes him from Sacramento FC’s USL Championship set-up to Houston 2’s MLS Next Pro programme. He joined Sacramento from SAC Academy in November 2023 and spent almost three years with the club before switching teams.

The 1.88m defender is right-footed and has played in central defence. His 2026 campaign included 381 minutes in the USL Championship, 77 in the USL Cup and 129 in the US Open Cup.

Ukaegbu has United States and Nigerian nationality and was born on 2 March 2007. His recorded market value is €200,000, while no transfer fee has been disclosed for the move.

Houston 2 are Ukaegbu’s second senior club, following his spell with Sacramento FC after his progression from SAC Academy. The agreement keeps him with the MLS Next Pro side through the end of June 2028.

The completed transfer was dated 21 August 2026, with Ukaegbu leaving Sacramento FC for Houston 2.
