Victor Osimhen scores twice as Galatasaray maintain perfect Super Lig start

Victor Osimhen continued his outstanding opening to the Turkish Super Lig season by scoring twice and setting up another goal in Galatasaray’s emphatic 4-0 victory away to Erzurumspor FK on Friday.

The Nigeria international has now scored four goals in his first two league appearances for the reigning Turkish champions, finding the net twice in each match. He also has one assist and is already emerging as an early contender for the Super Lig Golden Boot.

Galatasaray were made to work during an energetic opening period from the hosts, but gradually established control before taking a commanding lead.

Roland Sallai opened the scoring, with Galatasaray doubling their advantage in the 20th minute. Osimhen was central to the move, breaking into space before showing excellent awareness to find Yunus Akgun with a precisely weighted pass. Akgun finished the opportunity to put the visitors firmly in control.

The forward then added a goal of his own shortly before half-time after benefiting from a defensive mistake. A poor back-pass left Erzurumspor goalkeeper Matija Orbanic under pressure, allowing Osimhen to seize possession. He remained composed and rolled the ball into an empty net to give Galatasaray a 3-0 lead.

Osimhen completed his brace in the 79th minute. Showing the sharp instincts that have characterised his early-season form, he reacted quickly to a cross and stabbed the ball home for Galatasaray’s fourth goal.

The result ensures Galatasaray have preserved their perfect start to the campaign, while Osimhen has made an immediate impact since the beginning of their league title defence.

His latest display follows another two-goal performance in Galatasaray’s opening-day win over Corum FK. Across those two matches, the 27-year-old striker has scored four times and created one goal for his team-mates.

That goal-scoring record places Osimhen among the early leaders in the race for the Turkish Super Lig Golden Boot, as Galatasaray look to build momentum at the start of the season.

The striker will have another chance to extend his run when Galatasaray return to league action against Goztepe on Friday, 29 August. The fixture will be their third Super Lig match of the campaign.
