By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria U20 team will battle Benin Republic in the semifinal of the Wafu B U20 Women’s Cup in Ghana on Wednesday.
Both West African neighbours secured a semifinal berth after qualifying from the respective groups with the Benin side taking the second spot in group A, while Nigeria finished top of group B.
The encounter will renew the rivalry between the two countries who share close borders together but different currencies.
Going into the game, the Super Falconets wear the favourite tags following their ruthless and flawless campaign, scoring 16 goals and being the only side yet to concede in the competition.
Benin Republic were able to win one game in their group and lost one, conceding five goals and scoring five goals in the process. They will be facing an mountainous task seeking to crack open the Falconets’ defensive walls.
For the Nigerians, Christopher Danjuma will be aiming to inch closer to another continental final in his quest to celebrate another title success on the continent, having won gold at the 2019 African Games in Morocco.
With no injury concerns to the Nigerian side, they are expected to cruise past Benin Republic when the encounter kickoff by 6pm Nigeria time on Wednesday May 31st.
A win for either side will see them have the Wafu B U20 Women’s Cup trophy at sight.
