Al Shabab complete signing of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey

Al Shabab have officially announced the signing of Ghana international Thomas Partey during the current summer transfer window, with the experienced midfielder becoming the latest addition to the club’s squad ahead of the new season.

The Saudi club confirmed the deal on Friday through its official account on X, publishing a video to reveal the arrival of the former European-based player. The announcement was accompanied by the phrase: “A global star lights up the north of the capital, from the land of gold in the heart of Africa’s jungles.”

The post also carried the shorter message: “A global star lights up the north of the capital ⭐️” as Al Shabab confirmed that all procedures relating to Partey’s transfer had been completed.

Partey arrived in Riyadh on Thursday evening, where he was welcomed by several Al Shabab officials. He then travelled to hospital to undergo his medical examination, with the tests forming part of the formal process completed before the club announced his contract.

The 33-year-old brings extensive experience from some of Europe’s leading competitions. During his career, Partey has represented Atletico de Madrid, Villarreal and Arsenal, giving Al Shabab a midfielder accustomed to playing at the highest level and dealing with the demands of major matches.

His arrival is intended to strengthen the squad with both technical quality and a wealth of experience from European and international football. Al Shabab hope those qualities will help the team improve its performances and become more competitive during the next stage of its development.

Partey spent last season with Villarreal, making 32 appearances across all competitions. He did not score or provide an assist during those outings.

He also represented Ghana at the 2026 World Cup before deciding to begin a new chapter outside Europe by joining the Roshn Saudi League. The move brings to an end his latest spell in European football and gives him the opportunity to take on a new challenge in Saudi Arabia.

Al Shabab are counting on Partey’s experience on and off the pitch to contribute to the construction of a stronger team for the new campaign. The club believes his record of competing in high-profile matches, together with his technical and personal qualities, can help improve its position and overall image in the coming period.

The signing is the latest step in Al Shabab’s preparations for the new season, as the club seeks to add proven quality to its midfield and build a squad capable of competing with greater strength in the Roshn Saudi League.
