Alex Iwobi Praises Morocco’s Hosting of AFCON 2025, Reflects on Earlier Remarks

Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has commended Morocco for the quality of its hosting at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, acknowledging the country’s impressive facilities and organisation.

Iwobi’s comments mark a shift from his stance in November 2025, when a video he posted was widely interpreted as mocking Morocco.

Now in Morocco with the Nigerian national team, the Fulham star admits his perspective has changed after experiencing the tournament environment firsthand.

According to Iwobi, Morocco has set a high standard across key areas of the competition.

“Morocco had nice pitches, stadiums and hotels. They are doing a good job,” he said.

“Uganda also gave us a tough game.”

Looking ahead, the 28-year-old expressed hope that future hosts will match or exceed Morocco’s standards, particularly with the next AFCON set to be co-hosted by Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.

“I hope they have good facilities when they co-host the next AFCON alongside Kenya and Tanzania,” Iwobi added.

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be the first in the tournament’s history to be hosted jointly by three East African nations, with expectations already rising following Morocco’s well-received organisation of the 2025 edition.
