Aston Villa fans target Manchester City with relegation chants after Guehi mistake

Aston Villa supporters mocked Manchester City with relegation chants after a defensive error by Marc Guehi allowed Nicolas Jackson to score during their Premier League meeting at Villa Park on Saturday.
The incident came in the eighth round of the Premier League, when Guehi’s poor touch in the Manchester City defence presented the home side with a clear opportunity. John McGinn reacted quickly to win possession before sending the ball towards Jackson.
Despite pressure from the Manchester City defence, the Senegalese striker showed composure to take the ball past Anderson and fire a powerful finish into the roof of the net. The goal gave Aston Villa the lead and immediately lifted the atmosphere inside Villa Park.
The mistake also prompted a reaction from the stands. Sky Sports reported that supporters in the Holte End began chanting: “This is why you are going down,” after the misplaced pass involving Manchester City players.
Jackson’s finish continued a strong run in front of goal. According to WhoScored, he has now scored five goals in his past six appearances in all competitions, underlining his recent form and his ability to capitalise when chances arise.
Guehi, meanwhile, endured a difficult first half against Aston Villa. WhoScored’s statistics showed that the defender made the error that led to the goal, received a yellow card and completed no successful tackles.
The website gave Guehi a rating of 5.12 out of 10, the lowest mark awarded to any player during the opening half. His costly mistake placed him at the centre of criticism, while Jackson took advantage to extend his scoring sequence.
The goal was also highlighted by beIN SPORTS in a post on 24 October 2026, describing it as an early strike by Jackson that put Aston Villa ahead.
