Blackburn boss Mowbray unsure of Ryan Alebiosu injury after Stoke defeat

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray says he does not yet know how serious Ryan Alebiosu’s injury is after the defender was substituted during Tuesday’s 2-1 Championship loss to Stoke City.

The 24-year-old Nigeria international was forced off before half-time at Ewood Park, with Gady Beyuku coming on in the 41st minute.

Alebiosu’s withdrawal added to Blackburn’s problems as they tried to respond to their heavy 4-0 defeat by Swansea City at the weekend. Mowbray said the right-back had suffered fitness issues during matches before, but was unable to provide a firm assessment of the latest problem.

The Blackburn manager said the club’s medical staff would examine Alebiosu before the extent of the injury could be established.

“I’ve no idea. Ryan gets injured in every game almost, doesn’t he, and generally plays on. I don’t know. I’ll see tomorrow what the physio department think,” Mowbray said, as quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph.

Alebiosu has been an important option at right-back for Mowbray, making the latest setback a concern ahead of Blackburn’s next league fixture.

Stoke moved in front when Jack McGlynn converted a free-kick. Blackburn then fell further behind after an unfortunate own goal increased the visitors’ advantage.

Andri Gudjohnsen pulled a goal back late in the match, but Blackburn were unable to complete a recovery and Stoke held on for the points.

Rovers will host West Ham United on Saturday, November 7, and will hope to have a clearer indication of Alebiosu’s fitness before that encounter.
