Bradley Barcola’s Paris Saint-Germain future could open Liverpool transfer door

Paris Saint-Germain have rejected Liverpool’s latest offer for Bradley Barcola, but negotiations are continuing and all sides remain confident that a deal can be completed before the summer transfer window closes.

Liverpool offered €115m, including bonuses, for the France international, according to Spanish newspaper AS. Paris Saint-Germain turned down the proposal despite reducing their initial valuation during discussions.

The French club first demanded €160m for Barcola before lowering that figure to €140m. They are now prepared to accept a fee below that amount, although the gap between their expectations and Liverpool’s offer has yet to be fully bridged.

Barcola’s position has become one of the most significant unresolved issues of the final days of the transfer window, which closes on 1 September. The 22-year-old has refused to renew his contract with Paris Saint-Germain and has reached an initial agreement with Liverpool over a potential move.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has left Barcola out of his squad while the player’s future is decided. Barcola is understood to want a transfer after being told he is no longer part of the manager’s plans, although he had not originally intended to force his way out of the club.

His initial intention was to remain in Paris and compete for a place in the starting line-up. However, the situation changed significantly following the arrivals of Ferran Torres and Mika Godts, leaving Barcola increasingly convinced that a move would be the best outcome.

Liverpool are expected to make every effort to complete the signing. The player has already reached a preliminary agreement with the English club, while the progress made in negotiations in recent days has increased confidence that an agreement can eventually be reached.

Barcola has also urged the Paris Saint-Germain sporting director to find a solution with Liverpool after it became clear that Luis Enrique did not regard him as part of his plans. His continued presence at the club could otherwise create an unwanted problem for the manager.

The situation also places Paris Saint-Germain under considerable pressure. If the club cannot sell Barcola, it may be unable to strengthen its squad further before the transfer window shuts, at least in attack.

The former Olympique Lyonnais player announced in July that he would not extend his Paris Saint-Germain contract beyond 2028. That is the year in which his current deal with the reigning UEFA Champions League holders is due to expire.

With the deadline approaching, the coming hours could determine the outcome of one of the summer’s most prominent transfer sagas. Liverpool’s interest is clear, Barcola wants to leave, and Paris Saint-Germain have already shown a willingness to compromise on their original asking price. The remaining issue is whether the two clubs can agree on the final fee.
