Doma United maintain perfect start with victory over Inter Lagos

Doma United made it two wins from two in NPFL 2026/27 after Sadiq Rilwan’s second-half goal secured a 1-0 victory against Inter Lagos in Matchweek 2.

Rilwan struck in the 71st minute to settle a closely contested match in Lagos, after neither side had managed to score before the interval. The result sends Doma United to the top of the table with six points from their opening two fixtures, while the Gombe-based side have also kept clean sheets in both matches.

The visitors began their campaign with a 2-0 home win against Sporting Lagos. Their latest success means they have now defeated two Lagos clubs in successive weeks, beating Sporting Lagos at home before overcoming Inter Lagos away.

Inter Lagos, who were also newly promoted to the top flight, are still searching for their first points of the season. They opened their campaign with a 2-1 defeat by Shooting Stars and have now suffered losses in both of their matches.

Doma United impressed with their organisation and patience as they dealt with periods of pressure from the hosts. Inter Lagos enjoyed greater backing from the home supporters but were unable to find a way through a disciplined Doma defence.

Rilwan’s finish exposed Inter’s failure to turn their possession and pressure into clear attacking threat. Once behind, the hosts were forced to take more risks as they looked for an equaliser, but Doma United held firm.

The match became increasingly tense as Inter Lagos pushed forward, with several yellow cards shown during their attempts to get back into the contest. Despite their efforts, they could not find a second-half response and Doma United completed another clean-sheet victory.

Doma United technical adviser Ayodeji Ayeni had highlighted his team’s discipline after the opening-day win over Sporting Lagos. Those qualities were again evident in Lagos, where his side protected their advantage and maintained their unbeaten start.

The Savannah Tigers have scored three goals and conceded none across their first two games. Their next listed home assignment is against Enyimba.

For Inter Lagos, the early-season situation is more challenging. They have lost twice in succession and will next face Sporting Lagos in a Lagos derby later this month, with their first point of NPFL 2026/27 still to come.
