Galatasaray reject offers as Victor Osimhen set to stay in Istanbul

Galatasaray have decided that Victor Osimhen will remain at the club beyond the summer transfer window after rejecting strong interest from several of Europe’s leading clubs.

According to reports from beIN Sports, the Turkish champions are not prepared to consider any further offers for the Nigeria striker, who played a central role in their fourth consecutive Super Lig title triumph and their run to the Champions League Round of 16 last season.

Osimhen’s goals have quickly established him as one of Galatasaray’s most important players, both at Rams Park and within Turkish football. The club’s determination to keep him is strengthened by the terms of his contract, which runs until June 2029 and contains no release clause.

That agreement gives Galatasaray full control over whether Osimhen is sold and the price they would demand for him. A number of clubs have already tried to test their resolve.

Atletico Madrid reportedly submitted a proposal worth up to €125m, while Manchester United made concrete enquiries about the forward. Neither approach altered Galatasaray’s position.

Arsenal explored a different option by offering Viktor Gyokeres along with €30m, but Galatasaray rejected that proposal. Tottenham have also failed to make progress after seeing offers, including one reported to be worth €60m, turned down.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been linked with Osimhen, although neither Spanish club has made a move so far.

Galatasaray’s decision is not based solely on the financial value of potential offers. Following Mauro Icardi’s departure, the club intend to give Osimhen the famous number nine shirt and appoint him captain. They also want the striker to lead their campaign in the next Champions League.

A restriction affecting Serie A clubs could make a move to Italy particularly difficult. A clause connected to Osimhen’s transfer from Napoli means Galatasaray could be required to pay a penalty of at least €70m if they sell him to an Italian club before September 2027.

Osimhen scored 35 goals in all competitions during his first season with Galatasaray and supplied seven assists. He also became the quickest player in the club’s history to reach 50 goals, achieving the milestone in 59 appearances.

With the 27-year-old tied to Galatasaray until 2029 and the club planning to build its team around him, the Super Eagles star now appears set to continue his career in Istanbul.
