President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has pledged to make impactful and strategic contributions in his new role as a member of the FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Committee.
Gusau, whose appointment was confirmed earlier this week by the world football-governing body, described the role as both an honour and a significant responsibility. He emphasized that he will use the opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s and Africa’s influence in global football governance.
“It is a recognition and honour that I do not take for granted,” Gusau said.
“It is important to make robust contributions that justify the confidence reposed in me by the FIFA Council and reflect positively on Nigeria, West Africa, and the African game at large.”
He highlighted his intent to provide unique perspectives shaped by his experience within the NFF, WAFU-B, and as a regular attendee of CAF Executive Committee meetings.
“My involvement at various levels of African football administration will allow me to bring valuable insights to the committee and advocate effectively for the interests of African football,” he noted.
Gusau also underlined the potential of club football as a vehicle for broader economic growth, particularly in developing football nations.
“Our contributions on this committee can foster the rapid growth of football economies in countries that are still lagging behind, as club football remains the clearest pathway to sustainable development in the sport,” he added.
The FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Committee is tasked with advising and assisting in the organization and development of FIFA’s global men’s club tournaments. The committee is chaired by Jassim Rashid Al Buenain of Qatar, with Mikel Arriola of Mexico serving as deputy chair.
