Freddie Potts emerges as Club Brugge’s top target to replace Eintracht Frankfurt-bound Raphael Onyedika

Club Brugge have made West Ham United midfielder Freddie Potts their preferred replacement for Raphael Onyedika, who is close to joining Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth an initial €9m.

The Belgian champions have agreed a deal worth about €12m for Potts, according to transfer market expert Sacha Tavolieri, and the 22-year-old has already given the green light to the move.

Potts is expected to arrive at Club Brugge’s Blauw & Zwart training camp this afternoon for a medical. The English defensive midfielder would become the club’s immediate replacement for Onyedika, whose departure to Eintracht Frankfurt is nearing completion.

Club Brugge have agreed to sell the Nigeria international to the Bundesliga club after reaching a full agreement over the permanent transfer. Sky transfer expert Florian Plettenberg reports that Eintracht Frankfurt will pay an initial €9m, with further performance-related add-ons included in the deal.

Onyedika, 25, is set to sign a contract keeping him at Eintracht Frankfurt until 2031. He and his representatives have formally informed all parties of their decision to proceed with the transfer, clearing the way for the move to be completed.

The Nigeria international is expected to undergo his medical within the next 48 hours before signing a five-year contract with the Bundesliga side.

Club Brugge’s move for Potts is therefore being progressed alongside the final stages of Onyedika’s transfer. The English midfielder has emerged as the club’s leading candidate to fill the position vacated by the Super Eagles star.

Potts is a West Ham United midfielder and has now approved the proposed switch to the Belgian champions. Subject to a successful medical, he is set to join Club Brugge as the club prepares for life after Onyedika.

The agreement for Onyedika’s move to Eintracht Frankfurt represents the next step in a transfer that has been under negotiation between the two clubs. With the player, his representatives and both clubs now aligned on the move, the remaining process centres on the medical and the signing of the contract.

In turn, Club Brugge are moving quickly to secure Potts. The proposed €12m agreement would make the 22-year-old the chosen successor to Onyedika, while the Belgian side’s plan is for the new signing to report to the training camp and complete the required medical checks.

The transfers remain subject to the completion of those formal procedures. Onyedika must pass his medical before signing for Eintracht Frankfurt, while Potts is due to undergo his examination after arriving at Club Brugge’s training camp.
