Milan suffer heavy Europa League defeat at Bournemouth as Maignan sees red

AC Milan were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday, with goalkeeper Mike Maignan sent off and the English side awarded two penalties in a difficult first half for the Italian club.
The defeat leaves Milan on three points after three matches in the Europa League league phase, placing them 24th in the standings. Bournemouth, meanwhile, maintained their perfect record and moved on to nine points, putting them third.
Bournemouth took the lead in the eighth minute after the referee awarded them a penalty for a handball by Milan defender Koni De Winter. The decision was made following a review by the video assistant referee, and Justin Kluivert converted from the spot.
The visitors’ situation worsened in the 27th minute when Maignan was shown a straight red card. The French goalkeeper was dismissed for an incident involving Tyler Adams as the two teams prepared to take a corner, leaving Milan to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.
Bournemouth were awarded another penalty five minutes later, and Marcus Tavernier made no mistake from 12 yards in the 32nd minute to double the home side’s advantage.
Milan struggled to keep pace with their opponents, particularly after going down to 10 players. Bournemouth continued to exploit the numerical advantage and created further opportunities as the match progressed.
The hosts added a third goal in the 84th minute through Morocco international Amin Adli, who struck a direct free-kick with precision to put the result beyond doubt.
Bournemouth came close to extending their lead during the closing stages, taking advantage of Milan’s numerical disadvantage and the visitors’ visible frustration. However, the home side could not convert any of those late chances, as they secured a convincing 3-0 victory.
