Newly appointed coach of Bayelsa Queens, Whyte Ogbonda says his side is not under pressure to excel in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season.

Whyte joined Bayelsa Queens from Rivers Angels after guiding the Port Harcourt based side to a second placed finish at the end of the 2023/2024 NWFL Premiership season.

He capped up the season by winning the 2024 President Federation Cup title in Lagos before the Yenegoa based side unveiled him last month.

Bayelsa Queens has had a steady decline since winning the 2021/2022 league title and a third placed finish at the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League with second and third placed finishes in the last two seasons.

“We are aware of a lot of expectations from Bayelsa Queens particularly after the team came third in Africa two seasons ago,” Whyte told Bayelsa Queens Media.

“We are not under any pressure and the government and the management of the team have been very supportive.”

While appreciating the Bayelsa state government for their supports during preparation leading to next season, Whyte implored indigenes and supporters of the team to pray for the Club.

“I want to thank Bayelsa State Government and the board of Bayelsa Queens for the support and freehand to work which has made it a lot for us and also the Ministry for their efforts to see we get the needed preparations.” He continued.

“I just want Bayelsans to keep praying for the team, keep supporting us and I can assure them we will give our 100% performance.” He concluded.

Whyte has previously coached Ibom Angels, a team he led to the final of the President Federation Cup final twice, Osun Babes, and Confluence Queens.
