Nigerian football icon Asisat Oshoala has confirmed her readiness to lead the Super Falcons in their quest for a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, as the team gears up for the 2024 edition of the tournament in Morocco.
The Super Falcons, under the guidance of Head Coach Justine Madugu, will open their WAFCON 2024 campaign against Tunisia on Sunday, July 6, in Casablanca.
Oshoala, 30, returns to the national team after over a year’s absence and has already made her presence felt, scoring in Nigeria’s 3-1 friendly victory over long-time rivals, the Black Queens of Ghana, last Sunday.
Speaking to the Super Falcons media team, Oshoala expressed her enthusiasm and determination ahead of the tournament:
“For me personally, I want to score goals — it’s what I love to do. It’s been a while since I played with the national team due to personal matters, but whenever I’m on the pitch, I give my all to help my teammates secure the three points in every game.”
“My expectation of the team is, as always, to give 100 percent on the pitch, try to win every game, and treat every match with equal importance.”
The Super Falcons remain the most successful team in the competition’s history, and Oshoala’s return is expected to boost Nigeria’s chances of reclaiming continental supremacy.
