Peter Olayinka agrees move to Saudi First Division side Al Wehda FC

Peter Olayinka is set to continue his career in Saudi Arabia after agreeing to join Al Wehda FC, the Saudi First Division League club formerly represented by fellow Nigeria international Odion Ighalo.

The 30-year-old winger and forward will move to the Mecca-based club after spells with a number of European teams, including Slavia Prague, Red Star Belgrade and APOEL Nicosia.

Reports indicate that Olayinka’s contract with Al Wehda includes an annual salary of about €2.5m.

Al Wehda, known as the Knights of Mecca, are competing in the Saudi First Division League after being relegated from the Saudi top flight. The club will hope Olayinka’s experience and attacking ability can help them mount a promotion challenge.

Olayinka was born in Ibadan and has won four caps for Nigeria since making his international debut in 2019. He becomes the latest Super Eagles player to continue his career in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

His move also follows the path taken by Ighalo, who spent two seasons with Al Wehda between 2023 and 2025.

Olayinka joins Al Wehda with a varied European club background. His previous experience includes time at Slavia Prague, Red Star Belgrade and APOEL Nicosia, giving him familiarity with different leagues and footballing environments before his switch to Saudi Arabia.

The deal represents a new stage in the career of the left-sided attacker, who is capable of playing both as a winger and as a forward. Al Wehda’s decision to bring him to Mecca reflects the club’s intention to strengthen its squad as it seeks to return to the top division.

The Saudi First Division League side will now look to Olayinka to add quality in the final third while helping provide the experience required for a promotion campaign. His arrival is expected to increase the attacking options available to the Knights of Mecca as they attempt to recover from relegation.

Although Olayinka has made four appearances for Nigeria since his debut in 2019, he has not been a regular feature of the Super Eagles squad. His transfer nevertheless places him among a growing number of Nigerian internationals who have chosen to play in Saudi Arabia.

Al Wehda previously became home to Ighalo, who represented the club from 2023 until 2025. Olayinka’s arrival means another Super Eagles striker will now wear the colours of the Mecca-based side, with the club aiming to use his contribution in its bid for promotion.
