Mimaroğlu Praises Onuachu’s Penalty-Area Presence at Trabzonspor
Trabzonspor summer signing Metehan Mimaroğlu has highlighted the importance of Nigeria international Paul Onuachu, describing the striker’s presence in the penalty area as a major advantage for the Turkish club.
Mimaroğlu registered his first assist for Trabzonspor as the club began their Trendyol Süper Lig campaign with a 1-1 draw against Kasımpaşa on Saturday.
The former Gençlerbirliği player delivered a well-placed cross that Noah Saviolo converted to give Trabzonspor the lead shortly before half-time. Kasımpaşa responded after the break, with Adrian Benedyczak scoring from the penalty spot to secure a share of the points.
Speaking after the game, Mimaroğlu reflected on his contribution and stressed the value of having Onuachu occupying defenders inside the box.
The midfielder revealed that he had already told his teammates before the match that he wanted the Nigerian striker to remain in the penalty area, adding that head coach Fatih Tekke shares the same belief.
“I said it in the locker room before the match, I always want Paul to be there. Our coach says the same thing,” he said, as quoted by Günebakış.
Mimaroğlu believes Onuachu’s presence not only creates a direct goal threat but also opens up opportunities for players positioned around him.
“As long as Paul is in the penalty area, it’s a big advantage for us. The other players positioned around him can also contribute to the score,” he added.
The comments underline the role Trabzonspor expect Onuachu to play as they look to make a strong start to the new Süper Lig season.
