Raphinha chasing rare Barcelona scoring record after flying start

Raphinha is targeting a place in Barcelona history after scoring five goals in the opening three matches of the 2026-27 season.

The Brazil forward leads the club’s scoring charts, ahead of Fermin Lopez on three goals, Lamine Yamal on two and Adeyemi on one. If Raphinha scores in Barcelona’s next La Liga match, he will have the opportunity to join a select group of players who have found the net in four consecutive games at the start of a season.

Raphinha has already scored in each of Barcelona’s first three league fixtures. He scored twice in a 5-0 victory over Elche, added another goal in the 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao, and struck twice more in the match against Rayo Vallecano.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, 13 players have scored in each of Barcelona’s opening three matches at some point in the club’s history. That number falls to only five when the sequence is extended to four or five consecutive games.

Three Barcelona players have managed to score in the opening four matches of a season.

Laszlo Kubala achieved the feat in 1953-54, scoring eight goals across matches against Real Sociedad, Jaen, Real Valladolid and Sporting. Cayetano Re followed in 1964-65, scoring five times against Las Palmas, Atletico, Deportivo and Murcia.

The third player on that list is Cesc Fabregas, who scored four goals in the opening four matches of the 2011-12 campaign against Villarreal, Real Sociedad, Osasuna and Valencia.

Only two players have scored in five consecutive opening matches for Barcelona. Cesar Rodriguez did so in 1950-51, scoring eight times against Real Sociedad, Atletico, Real Madrid, Murcia and Valencia.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic matched the achievement in 2009-10, scoring five goals against Sporting, Getafe, Atletico, Racing and Malaga. He was also the first player to achieve the feat during his debut season in La Liga.

Since the start of the 21st century, Lionel Messi is the only Barcelona player to have produced a four-match scoring run across official competitions at the beginning of a campaign.

In 2011-12, Messi scored three goals across Barcelona’s two Spanish Super Cup matches against Real Madrid. He then scored against Porto in the UEFA Super Cup before scoring twice against Villarreal in Barcelona’s opening La Liga match.

The Argentina forward repeated the feat at the beginning of the 2012-13 season. He scored twice against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup before finding the net against Real Sociedad and Osasuna in La Liga.

Raphinha’s five goals this season have come during an unbeaten start for Barcelona. Against Elche, he and Fermin Lopez scored twice each, while Adeyemi completed the 5-0 victory.

Raphinha and Fermin Lopez were both on target again in the win over Athletic Bilbao. Against Rayo Vallecano, Raphinha added two more goals and Lamine Yamal opened his account for the season with a brace. Barcelona’s fifth goal was an own goal by Lejeune.
