Real Madrid ready to deal Tottenham defensive blow this summer
Real Madrid are reportedly ready to trigger the buyback clause on Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon, according to reports coming out of Spain.
Reguilon joined the Lilywhites from Los Blancos in 2020 for a fee of just below £30 million, and has gone on to become a mainstay of the north London side’s defence under three managers, racking up 67 appearances across two seasons.
However, there was a buyback clause inserted into the deal to ensure that, should he perform well, he would be able to return to Madrid at a cut-price. And, if the reports in Spain are anything to go buy, they have decided to do just that.
As per todofichajes, Real Madrid ‘want a new left-back to challenge Mendy for the position and a former youth squad is the favourite option for the sports management.’
‘Real Madrid will execute the €40M buyback option it has and in London they would already know of White’s intentions’, they continue.
This would leave Spurs having to add another full-back to a lengthening shopping list this summer, which already contained several defenders and a forward.
Reguilon sidelined for now
The Lilywhites are set to miss Reguilon for the Foxes clash, as the Spurs head coach Antonio Conte revealed he was suffering with a groin pain.
Conte: “Reguilon is not available. It’s a groin pain and he’s not available. I’m not sure how long it will take him to recover.” https://t.co/cCm1bp5FWC

There is no timescale on his return either, with Conte admitting that he’s ‘not sure how long it will take him to recover’.
However, a change of system is not looking likely, despite missing two full-backs.
‘We have Emerson & Sessegnon, I think also Deki can play in this position. The best solution is not to change what we’ve been doing for 6/7 months. This formation can give us great satisfaction’, the Italian told the press.
