Shadrach Ogie: Irish-Nigerian centre-back signs for Woking after Gillingham exit

Irish-Nigerian defender Shadrach Ogie has joined Woking on a free transfer from Gillingham, signing a deal with the National League club until 30 June 2028. The 24-year-old centre-back moves down a division after leaving the League Two side, becoming a long-term addition to Woking’s back line.

Limerick-born Ogie, who is left-footed and stands at 1.85m, arrives with substantial experience in the EFL despite his age. He has made 128 League Two appearances, scoring once and contributing two assists, and has also featured regularly in cup competitions including the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy.

Ogie’s competitive senior career has already brought silverware. He was part of the Leyton Orient squad that won the League Two title in the 2022-23 season, an achievement that underlines his familiarity with the demands of a promotion campaign in the lower leagues.

In addition to his league outings, Ogie has built up more than 1,200 minutes in the EFL Trophy and has appeared in both major domestic cups, giving him a broad base of experience against clubs from across the English pyramid. He has also played in the National League earlier in his career, making 37 appearances and scoring twice at that level.

Ogie joins Woking with immediate effect and is under contract with the club for the next two seasons.
