Slavia Prague manager lauds Nigeria defender Igoh Ogbu lauded after strong display

By Wale Mustapha

Nigeria defender, Igoh Ogbu, has earned high praise from his Slavia Prague manager, Jindřich Trpišovský, following his standout performances in recent matches.

Slavia Prague continued their pursuit of the Czech Republic’s Super Liga title with a dominant 3-0 victory over Jablonec on Sunday, where Ogbu netted a goal and helped secure a clean sheet for the team. The 24-year-old centre-back’s all-around performance was key to the result.

Trpišovský, clearly impressed by Ogbu’s development, spoke highly of the defender’s evolution as a player.

“Igoh usually defends the opponent’s best player and is dominant in duels. He has calmed down recently, feels good, and I think it was his first goal with his left foot in his career,” Trpišovský said.

He continued, “He timed the whole situation perfectly and solved it perfectly. He is extremely important for us, and his performances definitely exceed his current price tag. If he played in a foreign league, his value would be much higher. He has become a complete player.”

Ogbu, who has scored two goals for Slavia Prague this season, is part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, marking a significant milestone in his career.
