Victor Osimhen return gives Galatasaray hope of exposing Barcelona’s high line

Galatasaray assistant coach Ismael Garcia believes Victor Osimhen can pose a major threat to Barcelona when the teams meet in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles striker is expected to make his competitive return after recovering from injury, providing Galatasaray with a significant boost for their league-phase meeting with the Spanish side.
Barcelona will start as favourites after opening the season with a perfect record. They recorded their eighth league victory in eight games by beating Getafe 3-0 at the weekend.
However, Galatasaray feel Barcelona’s approach could create opportunities for Osimhen. His pace, physical strength and movement into space behind the defence are viewed as potential weapons against the Catalan club.
Speaking to Spanish publication SPORT, Garcia said the Nigerian forward was ready to play and outlined why Barcelona’s defensive structure may suit his qualities.
Why Barcelona’s defensive line could favour Osimhen
Barcelona’s aggressive defensive positioning can leave room behind their back line, particularly when an opponent regains possession and attacks quickly on the counter.
That space could allow Osimhen to threaten Barcelona with his acceleration and direct running. The 27-year-old is capable of making powerful bursts into the channels, stretching defences and creating difficult situations for defenders.
His ability to attack open areas is also understood by Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, who will be aware of the danger posed by the striker’s pace when his side commit players forward.
For Galatasaray to benefit, they will need to move the ball forward accurately and quickly after winning possession. Osimhen’s threat will depend on his team-mates finding him early enough to exploit gaps behind the Barcelona defence.
The striker has already scored against Barcelona during his time with Napoli. He has not, however, been on the winning side in any of his four meetings with the club.
Galatasaray’s overall record against Barcelona is also unfavourable. The Turkish Super Lig champions have won only one of their 10 previous encounters with the Spanish giants, while six of those matches ended in victory for Barcelona.
Osimhen’s return therefore gives Galatasaray an attacking option capable of testing a defensive system that often operates high up the pitch. Barcelona’s strong start means they remain the more likely winners, but Galatasaray believe the Nigerian forward could provide a route to challenging that status when the sides meet.
