Ligue 1: Moses Simon’s goal not enough as Nantes lose to Lens
By Wale Mustapha
Nigerian forward Moses Simon found the back of the net, but it wasn’t enough to secure a positive result for Nantes as they were beaten 3-2 by RC Lens in a thrilling Ligue 1 encounter.
The match, held at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, saw a dramatic back-and-forth between the two sides. Lens took the lead in the 21st minute through a penalty from Przemyslaw Frankowski.
Simon equalised for Nantes just before halftime, converting from the penalty spot in the 36th minute for his third goal of the season. The Super Eagles’ vice-captain then turned provider in the 71st minute, assisting Nicolas Cozza to give Nantes a 2-1 lead.
However, the hosts responded in dramatic fashion. Lens’ Hamzat Ojediran leveled the score at 2-2 with just four minutes left in regulation.
The game was ultimately decided in the dying moments, as Adrien Thomasson scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute, ensuring a dramatic late win for Lens.
Despite Simon’s goal and assist, Nantes left the field empty-handed, with the Canaries unable to hold onto their lead in the high-paced thriller.
