Victor Osimhen to Barcelona? Big Talent, Bigger Salary Complications

Victor Osimhen may look like a relatively “affordable” superstar on the transfer market, but the reality is more complicated—especially for FC Barcelona.

Barcelona are reportedly willing to go as high as €100 million for the Nigerian striker, though Galatasaray are holding out for closer to €130 million.

Even at that price, Osimhen would still cost less than elite alternatives like Harry Kane or Erling Haaland as a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.

But the real sticking point isn’t the transfer fee—it’s wages.

Osimhen reportedly earns around €21 million per year. For a club already battling strict La Liga financial regulations, that salary could destabilize Barcelona’s already fragile wage structure.

The club has been exceeding salary limits for years and is still dealing with debts estimated near €1 billion.

Bringing in a player on those wages risks not just financial penalties, but also dressing room imbalance.

Despite that, admiration for Osimhen inside the club is strong. Sporting director Deco and rising star Lamine Yamal are both said to rate him highly.

His blend of strength, pace, and consistent goal-scoring has made him one of Europe’s standout strikers.

So while Osimhen ticks nearly every box on the pitch, Barcelona’s financial reality—more than the transfer fee—may ultimately decide whether this move ever happens.

Osimhen have the record for highest goals scored at the FIFA U-17 World Cup and is close to equaling and breaking the all time goal scorers record of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team which late Rashidi Yekini hold.

The former Wolfsburg, Lille, and Napoli forward is a key player for both club and country.
