Awawu Bashiru Confident Flamingos Will Make Global Impact Ahead of U-17 World Cup

There is a growing sense of belief within the camp of the Nigeria women’s U-17 national football team (Flamingos), as 16-year-old attacking midfielder Bashiru Awawu says the team is quietly building something special ahead of major international challenges.

Awawu was recently seen in Sagamu as she made her way back to the Flamingos’ training camp after briefly joining Confluence Queens FC for their President Federation Cup quarter-final encounter against Sunshine Queens of Akure.

Despite her growing reputation on the pitch, the teenager describes herself as naturally reserved off it.

“I’m not someone who talks too much. I prefer to express myself through hard work on the pitch,” she said.

Speaking about the environment in camp, Awawu praised the technical crew led by Akeem Busari, particularly the head coach, highlighting the discipline and care within the setup.

“Our coach is like a father to every one of us. He genuinely cares about the players, but he is also very disciplined and takes no nonsense. That has helped to bring out the best in us as a team,” she explained.

She also expressed strong confidence in her teammates, describing them as talented, united, and determined to achieve success on the global stage.

“We have an amazing team, and I believe we will shock the world by winning the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup,” Awawu said confidently.

With rising young talents like Awawu leading the charge, Nigerian fans will be hoping the Flamingos can translate their confidence into strong performances and possibly make history on the world stage.
