Onome Ebi awestruck by playing in record sixth Women’s World Cup:
By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria captain, Onome Ebi is stunned appearing at her sixth FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Ebi first graced the Women’s World Cup in 2003 held at the United States of America (USA) as the Super Falcons skipper said it will be an unreal moment to play at her sixth World Cup as she believes her hard work and dedication has payed off.
“I enjoy what I do and setting records, and to get a chance to play in my sixth World Cup feels unreal,” Ebi told BBC.
“All my hard work and dedication is paying off and it feels good. At my first World Cup, in 2003, I never ever imagined that I would be playing in my sixth. This is like a dream come true.”
The former Levante Las Planas defender revealed how her long lasting love for the sport had hugely helped her stay to relevant in the team through hard work and discipline.
“I love this game and I always wanted to give my best and continue for as long as possible,” she continued.
“I have managed to stay relevant in the team through sheer hard work.”
Ebi didn’t taste action in the goalless draw against Canada as she was an unused substitute as the 40-year-old will be in line to play against co-host Australia on July 27 at Suncorp Stadium.
