Akor Adams strike gives Venezia first Serie A win of the season against Napoli

Venezia secured their first victory of the 2026-2027 Serie A campaign by beating Napoli 1-0 at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo on Saturday, with Akor Adams scoring the decisive goal.
Venezia had begun the season with six consecutive defeats against Lecce, AC Milan, Frosinone, Fiorentina, Lazio and Atalanta. They had scored five times during that run while conceding 16 goals.
After a goalless first half, Adams broke the deadlock four minutes after the restart. The striker took advantage of a defensive mistake to put Venezia ahead in the 49th minute.
The move began with a long throw-in from Switzerland international of Nigerian descent Simon Sohm. Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani failed to make clean contact with his head, enabling the Super Eagles striker to take control and move past him.
Adams then struck a right-footed shot towards goal. The effort took a further deflection off Rrahmani, leaving Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret wrong-footed as the ball went into the net.
The goal was Adams’ fourth of the season in nine appearances across all competitions. He joined Venezia during the summer after leaving Sevilla.
Victory moved Venezia on to their first three points of the campaign, although they remain at the foot of the Serie A table. They are one point behind Udinese, Monza, Genoa, Parma and Fiorentina in the provisional standings.
