Barcelona president Laporta shares dinner with former Real Madrid challenger before El Clasico

Barcelona president Joan Laporta was among the leading figures at the traditional Sopar de la Fonteta dinner on Saturday evening, held on the eve of the El Clasico meeting between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Laporta shared a table with Enrique Riquelme, the former candidate for the Real Madrid presidency who lost the election to Florentino Perez.
The dinner also brought together prominent figures from Spanish political and economic life. Those attending included Juanma Moreno Bonilla, president of the Regional Government of Andalusia; Josep Oliu, chairman of Banco Sabadell; and Fernando Lopez Miras, president of the Region of Murcia.
Former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell was also present. During the gathering, Rosell approached Laporta to greet him.
The Sopar de la Fonteta has developed over the years into one of the most significant social events for Catalonia’s leading figures. It also attracts important representatives of political and economic influence from Madrid.
While food and gastronomy remain central to the occasion, the dinner provides an opportunity for some of Spain’s most influential figures to meet, establish contacts and strengthen relationships.
One of the event’s distinctive features is its setting. Rather than taking place in a hotel or conference centre, it is hosted at the private residence of businessman Luis Conde. That arrangement creates a more relaxed atmosphere for those attending.
This year’s meeting between Laporta and Riquelme added a clear football dimension to an event more usually dominated by business and institutional relationships.
Their encounter came on the eve of one of the most anticipated matches of the season, with Barcelona and Real Madrid preparing to renew their rivalry and test themselves against one another.
The presence of Laporta and Riquelme gave added prominence to the dinner before the two clubs met, linking the social gathering directly with the latest chapter of Spanish football’s most high-profile contest.
