Brighton & Hove Albion target Nigeria forward Femi Azeez after Unity Cup success
Brighton & Hove Albion have joined Hull City in the race to sign Nigeria forward Femi Azeez from Millwall, with the Premier League club seeking attacking reinforcements before the start of the 2026-27 season.
The interest, reported by the Yorkshire Post and relayed by Soccernet.ng, comes after Brighton completed the signing of another Nigerian player, Zadok Yohanna, earlier this summer.
Brighton won the competition to recruit Yohanna from Swedish club AIK in June, beating interest from Newcastle United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Rennes. The teenager had attracted significant attention after an outstanding breakthrough campaign in Sweden, only a year after moving to AIK from Ikon Allah Academy in Nigeria.
Yohanna, 18, became the sixth Nigerian player to represent Brighton & Hove Albion and was the club’s first signing of the summer.
The Seagulls are now considering another move for Nigerian talent as they prepare for a season that will include European football. Brighton finished eighth in the Premier League last term and qualified for the UEFA Conference League, increasing the need for squad depth as they balance domestic and continental commitments.
Azeez is also being monitored by newly promoted Premier League club Hull City. The Tigers are believed to be prepared to meet Millwall’s valuation of the forward as they strengthen their squad after securing promotion to the top flight.
Millwall rejected an offer from Ipswich Town for Azeez earlier in the summer. Head coach Alex Neil has since acknowledged that the player could leave if the club’s asking price is met before the transfer window closes.
The 25-year-old began Millwall’s 2026-27 Championship campaign in the starting line-up during a 2-0 victory over Bristol City last weekend, although he suffered an injury scare during the match.
Azeez was one of Millwall’s key performers last season as they pushed for promotion. He scored 11 goals and supplied seven assists, helping the club reach the Championship play-off semi-finals. Their promotion bid ended against Hull City, who went on to win promotion to the Premier League.
His form earned him selection in the PFA Championship Team of the Season and led to his first opportunity with Nigeria during the off-season.
Azeez made an immediate impact for the Super Eagles at the 2026 Unity Cup. He scored twice on his international debut in the semi-final before playing an important role in Nigeria’s final victory over Jamaica.
Nigeria successfully defended the Unity Cup title, with Azeez’s performances helping to raise his profile ahead of the new domestic season.
Brighton’s interest means the forward now has two Premier League options, with both the Seagulls and Hull City assessing whether they can meet Millwall’s valuation. Azeez could leave the Championship club in the coming days if either side agrees to the required fee.
Should Brighton complete the transfer, Azeez would become the seventh Nigerian player in the club’s history.
