Nigerian midfielder, Chrisantus Uche made a memorable Spanish LaLiga debut for Getafe on Thursday scoring the equalising goal and becoming a hero for his team in their 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao on Friday.

The combative midfielder who joined Getafe in June from AD Cueta on a three year deal was the hero of the night in the curtain raised for the new season.

It was Bilbao who broke the deadlock with a stunning effort from Oihan Sancet just before the half-hour mark.

However, Getafe rallied after halftime, and Uche headed home Luis Milla’s corner to seal a crucial point for his team.

The 21 year old who is now the third Nigerian to have played for Getafe after Ikechukwu Uche and Moses Simon will has now increased the number of Nigerians to be monitored in this season’s Spanish top flight.

Uche will hope to be in news alongside Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke among other Nigerians in Spanish football.

His rise from Nigeria’s U-23 team to Spanish football has earned widespread recognition.

Uche’s signing is a significant boost to Getafe, who aim to return to European competition after finishing 12th last season.

Despite a disappointing start for Athletic Club, Getafe will be thrilled with the point, and Uche’s debut goal will be remembered as a highlight of the match.
