Dunfermline Athletic sign Nigerian striker Olamilekan Adams
Dunfermline Athletic have signed Nigerian forward Olamilekan Adams from Czech club SK Dynamo Ceske Budejovice on a two-year contract, with the Scottish Championship side holding an option to extend the agreement.
The 21-year-old striker joins the Pars after spending his first season in the Czech Republic, where he competed in the Chance Narodni Liga. Adams made 18 appearances during the campaign, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
He will now continue his career in Scottish football, with Dunfermline hoping the left-footed forward can add strength and another attacking option to their squad.
Adams’ arrival has been welcomed by Dunfermline head coach Neil Lennon, who said the club had been impressed by the player’s early work in training despite his limited experience.
“Adams is a powerful left-footed striker. He’s good with his back to goal,” Lennon told theclub’s official website.
“He doesn’t have a great deal of experience, so he might be one that will slow burn a little bit.
“But it’s good to have options of strikers in the building.
“He’s a little bit of an unknown quantity, but the last couple of days in training he’s looked great.”
Lennon’s comments suggest Adams may need time to adapt to the demands of Scottish football, although the Dunfermline manager believes the forward has already shown promising qualities since joining the club.
The new signing arrives with experience of senior football in the Czech Republic, having featured 18 times in the Chance Narodni Liga during his debut campaign there. His return of three goals and one assist represents the statistical record he takes into his first season with Dunfermline Athletic.
The contract covers two years, while the extension option gives the club the opportunity to retain Adams beyond that initial period.
Dunfermline have described the player as a powerful striker who is effective when playing with his back to goal. His left-footed profile also gives Lennon an additional option in attack as the Pars prepare for the Scottish Championship season.
Adams’ move from SK Dynamo Ceske Budejovice completes his switch to the Scottish club, where he will now look to establish himself and make an impact in a new league.
Lennon acknowledged that the forward remains an unfamiliar figure to many supporters, but his positive assessment of Adams’ opening training sessions indicates that Dunfermline are encouraged by what they have seen so far.
The Nigerian will aim to build on his experience in the Czech Republic and improve his goalscoring contribution as he begins this next stage of his career with the Pars.
