Durosinmi scores again as Genk complete comeback win over Westerlo

Rafiu Durosinmi scored for a second successive match as Genk recovered from a two-goal deficit to beat Westerlo 3-2 in the Belgian Pro League on Saturday night.

Genk’s comeback was completed by substitute Aaron Bibout, who struck 11 minutes from time to secure all three points after the hosts had found themselves in serious difficulty during the opening stages.

Westerlo made the stronger start and moved in front after only seven minutes. Dylan Ourega found the net to give the visitors an early advantage and put Genk under immediate pressure.

Their position became even more difficult four minutes later when Genk defender Matte Smets turned the ball into his own goal. The own goal doubled Westerlo’s lead and left Genk facing the prospect of a damaging defeat on home ground.

Durosinmi, however, gave Genk a way back into the contest shortly before half-time. The forward converted a penalty three minutes before the interval, cutting Westerlo’s advantage to 2-1 and providing the hosts with renewed momentum.

Genk completed the recovery before the break. Bryan Heynen scored in the 43rd minute to bring the sides level at 2-2, ensuring that the hosts went into half-time having overturned Westerlo’s two-goal lead.

The match remained finely balanced after the interval, with Genk continuing to search for the goal that would finish their revival. Durosinmi’s contribution ended in the 66th minute when he was replaced by Aaron Bibout.

That change ultimately proved crucial. Bibout scored 11 minutes from the end of the game to put Genk ahead for the first time and complete a notable comeback.

Durosinmi’s penalty was his second goal in as many games, continuing his recent run of scoring in consecutive appearances. His effort also provided the foundation for Genk’s response after Westerlo had taken control with two goals inside the first 11 minutes.

Although Westerlo’s early lead appeared to place them in command, Genk scored three unanswered goals after the visitors’ second goal. Durosinmi began the turnaround from the penalty spot, Heynen restored parity shortly afterwards and Bibout delivered the decisive finish late in the match.

Genk therefore secured a 3-2 victory despite conceding twice in the opening stages. Westerlo were unable to protect their advantage after Ourega’s seventh-minute opener and Smets’ own goal, while Genk’s three-goal response earned them the win in their Belgian Pro League meeting.

Durosinmi was substituted before the winning goal, but his penalty ensured Genk remained in contention and set up the late victory completed by Bibout.
