Bayern Munich provide Jamal Musiala update after alarming collapse

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl says Jamal Musiala is “fine” after the Germany international suddenly collapsed during a pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Musiala went down in the 83rd minute of Bayern’s 3-1 victory in the Telekom Cup, staged as part of both teams’ preparations for the 2026-27 season. The 23-year-old appeared to collapse without any obvious contact, prompting players from both sides to immediately call for medical assistance.

An emergency doctor came on to the pitch as the atmosphere inside the stadium fell silent. Musiala received treatment on the field before the doctor gave a positive signal a short time later.

The Bayern midfielder was then helped from the pitch. He appeared dazed and dizzy as he left the game, leading to concern among supporters and those watching the match.

However, Eberl moved to reassure fans after the final whistle.

“He is fine, and that is the most important thing,” Eberl told German newspaper Bild.

The incident occurred in difficult conditions, with temperatures in Munich reaching 33C. According to German broadcaster Sport1, Musiala suffered from dizziness and circulation problems linked to the heat.

Initial examinations carried out by Bayern’s medical staff did not reveal any worrying signs, Sport1 reported.

Musiala is expected to be given time to rest over the next two days while he recovers. Bayern will continue to monitor his condition before deciding when he can return to training.

The collapse briefly overshadowed Bayern’s victory, which formed part of the club’s early preparations for the new campaign. The result nevertheless gave the reigning German side a positive outcome against RB Leipzig as both clubs continued their build-up to the 2026-27 season.

Musiala has become an important player for Bayern Munich and Germany, meaning any concern over his fitness is likely to attract close attention. The club has not announced a specific timetable for his return, with his recovery and further monitoring set to determine the next steps.

Eberl’s comments, together with the initial medical assessment, reduced fears surrounding the incident. Bayern will nonetheless take a cautious approach before Musiala resumes full training following his unexpected reaction to the heat during Saturday’s match.
