Haitham Hassan makes winning Celtic debut in Scottish League Cup

Egypt forward Haitham Hassan began his Celtic career in impressive fashion as the new signing helped his side reach the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup with a 4-0 victory over Dundee United on Saturday.

Hassan joined Celtic during the current summer transfer window from Spanish club Real Oviedo, having also represented the Egypt national team. Although he was not included in Celtic’s starting line-up for the match, he was introduced from the bench in the 71st minute as his new side completed a convincing victory.

Celtic controlled the game and established a two-goal advantage before half-time. Auston Trusty opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, giving the visitors the lead after a dominant start.

Only two minutes later, Celtic doubled their advantage through Camilo Duran. The early goals placed Dundee United under sustained pressure and left Celtic in a commanding position before the interval.

The Scottish side continued to dictate proceedings after the break. Sebastian Tounekti added a third goal in the 53rd minute, further strengthening Celtic’s grip on the tie and putting the result beyond serious doubt.

Benjamin Nygren completed the scoring in the 62nd minute, sealing a 4-0 win for Celtic and confirming their place in the last eight of the Scottish League Cup.

For Hassan, the appearance represented the opening chapter of his time at Celtic. The Egypt international was brought on during the closing stages, with the outcome already heavily in Celtic’s favour, as the club moved into the quarter-finals in emphatic style.

His arrival from Real Oviedo during the summer transfer window had made him one of the latest additions to Celtic’s squad. While he did not start against Dundee United, his introduction in the 71st minute gave him his first opportunity to feature for his new club.

Celtic’s four-goal performance was built on an early breakthrough, a quick second goal and further strikes after the interval. Trusty’s opener, Duran’s goal two minutes later, Tounekti’s effort and Nygren’s finish ensured that the Scottish club progressed comfortably.

The result gave Hassan a winning start to his Celtic career, while the 4-0 scoreline sent the club through to the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup.
