Gabriel Osho opens up on missing first Super Eagles call-up, eyes redemption vs Benin

By Monsurah Olatunji

Gabriel Osho, the latest addition to Nigeria’s national team, has finally addressed the reason behind his initial absence from the squad after receiving his first call-up.

The 26-year-old defender, who now plays for Auxerre in France, was invited to the Super Eagles for the post-AFCON friendlies against Ghana and Benin Republic under former coach Finidi George but was unable to attend due to injury.

Speaking candidly, Osho revealed that an untimely injury was the primary factor that kept him from honoring the initial call, but he expressed deep gratitude for a second opportunity to join the team now that circumstances have aligned.

“I couldn’t come before because of injury and a couple of other things, but when this second chance came around, everything fell into place,” Osho told NFF TV.

“I’m so grateful to God that I can finally join up with the team and represent my country.”

The Auxerre defender is now looking ahead to Nigeria’s upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda, where he is expected to make his mark. With high expectations from fans, Osho is determined to give his best for the Super Eagles.

“I’ll just work as hard as I can. I believe that’s what the fans expect from every player here,” he continued. “As long as everyone works hard and applies themselves, we’re all talented enough to be here. For me, it’s all about the hard work, dedication, and giving everything for the shirt.”

As Nigeria embarks on its road to the next Africa Cup of Nations, Osho’s commitment to proving himself is clear, and fans will be eager to see him make an impact in the upcoming fixtures.
