Gernot Rohr Conducts European Scouting Mission Ahead of Super Eagles Friendlies

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has embarked on a strategic mission to Germany to monitor potential squad members ahead of the upcoming international friendly matches against Serbia and Poland. Rohr, who recently steered Nigeria to qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, is dedicated to assembling a formidable team for the global tournament.

Having left Morocco, where Nigeria participated in the 2018 CAF African Nations Championship, Rohr has been actively engaged in discussions with players in France, with an aim to finalize his selections. The Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, confirmed Rohr’s commitment to curating a strong team for the World Cup and his meticulous approach to player selection.

Ibitoye stated, “Rohr is in Germany now monitoring players that could make his team for the upcoming international friendly matches that will help him get the best for the World Cup. He is determined to present a quality team in Russia and he has started monitoring the players he wants to give the opportunities to prove what they can do for Nigeria.”

Players such as Leon Balogun and Anthony Ujah from Mainz, along with Wolfsburg’s Victor Osimhen, who currently ply their trade in the German Bundesliga, are under Rohr’s consideration.

As Rohr meticulously evaluates potential squad members, the list of players for the Serbia and Poland international friendly matches is expected to be unveiled in early March. The friendlies, scheduled for March 23 and 27 against Poland in Warsaw and Serbia in London, respectively, will serve as crucial preparations for Nigeria, set to face Iceland, Argentina, and Croatia in the first round of the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
