“It’s a shame they don’t rate him” – Brown Ideye on Victor Osimhen’s transfer saga
By Monsurah Olatunji
Former Nigeria international Brown Ideye has expressed his frustration over what he perceived as a lack of recognition for Victor Osimhen’s talents in Europe.
The reigning African Player of the Year was instrumental in leading Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years and awarded the top scorer award.
His impressive form attracted interest from top clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli as well.
Despite Osimhen signing a contract extension in December, he has been the subject of transfer interest for over a year, with clubs hesitant to meet his hefty release clause, which is believed to be between €120 million and €130 million.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly keen on securing Osimhen’s services on a loan deal, coupled with a reduced wage package.
However, the Super Eagles is reportedly not open to taking a wage cut and is pushing for a loan move that includes an obligatory option for a permanent transfer.
Ideye who has walked the path in the past believed clubs aren’t willing to pay the hefty price because they don’t consider his compatriot one of the best despite his achievements with club and country.
“It’s a shame they don’t rate him among the top strikers abroad, after an amazing season with his club and winning the African best player award,” he posted on X.
“If na Yomi be him manager u for don hear HERE WE GO!! 😂😂😂
“I wish him all the best, because I know how his feeling right now. same thing happened to me at West Brom with Tony Pulis, i had no option than to sign for Olympiacos with a pay cut.”
