La Liga to report attack on Eduardo Camavinga during El Clasico celebration

La Liga will file a complaint with the disciplinary committee after Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was struck by flagpoles while celebrating his side’s second goal against Barcelona in the closing stages of Sunday’s El Clasico.

Several Barcelona fans attempted to hit Camavinga with the poles during the celebrations at Camp Nou. Video footage shared on social media appeared to show supporters reaching towards the Real Madrid player from a stand behind the goal.

Some of the fans made contact with Camavinga around the head as he tried to shield his face from the blows. His team-mates intervened quickly, helping him move away from the supporters and urging the crowd to stop.

The incident was the main disruption in what had otherwise been a generally calm match, according to Spanish newspaper AS. La Liga said it would take firm action after reviewing the available footage and would formally refer the matter to its disciplinary committee.

The committee will decide the appropriate punishment for the behaviour, which came from one of the stands behind the goal at Barcelona’s stadium.

La Liga said: “The league remains firmly committed to eliminating any acts of violence or intolerance from Spanish football.”

The listed La Liga fixtures include Barcelona against Deportivo Alaves on 31 October 2026, while Racing Santander are scheduled to play Real Madrid on 01 November 2026.
