Lamine Yamal’s ‘killer stare’ goes viral after Lucas Hernandez clash in PSG win

Lucas Hernandez was at the centre of attention as Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2 in the Champions League, after combining an influential performance at left-back with a goal and a provocative exchange with Lamine Yamal.
Hernandez was given his opportunity because of the absence of Nuno Mendes. Signed by Paris Saint-Germain as part of their defensive plans, the France international made the most of his chance, helping to contain Yamal before making an impact at the other end.
Yamal had produced 20 goal contributions in 12 official matches this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists. However, the Barcelona forward found it difficult to influence the match while being closely monitored by Hernandez.
The main flashpoint came in the 72nd minute. Hernandez met a corner from Desire Doue with a header to put Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 ahead.
His celebration immediately added tension to the contest. Hernandez walked towards Yamal, touched the Barcelona player on the shoulder in an apparent attempt to provoke him and then moved away while laughing. Yamal responded with an angry look that appeared to show his frustration at the defender’s actions.
Video of the exchange quickly spread across social media. One clip posted on X received more than 4 million views, with many viewers describing Yamal’s expression as a “killer look”.
A post shared by Loris Bernardini on 20 October 2026 captioned the moment: “Hernandez x Yamal. New MEME unlocked 🤣🤣🤣 #PSGFCB”.
The incident also prompted debate among supporters, with some questioning why Hernandez was not shown a yellow card. They argued that the celebration went beyond the usual level of provocation seen in high-profile matches.
Yamal responds with a moment of quality
Despite Hernandez’s close attention, Yamal produced a moment of individual brilliance in the 79th minute.
The Spain international took advantage of a misplaced clearance by Warren Zaire-Emery and accelerated towards goal. From a tight angle, he lifted a clever finish over goalkeeper Matvey Safonov and under the crossbar.
The goal underlined Yamal’s ability to create a decisive moment even when he is being heavily restricted by the opposition.
It was not enough to prevent Barcelona from losing, however. Paris Saint-Germain eventually secured a 4-2 victory, handing the Catalan club their first defeat of the season in Paris.
Hernandez’s defensive display, his headed goal and the exchange with Yamal, followed by the Barcelona forward’s skilful reply, made their contest one of the defining moments of an eventful European night.
