Shooting Stars part company with Nurudeen Aweroro ahead of new season

Shooting Stars have ended their association with head coach Nurudeen Aweroro and two other members of the club’s technical team following discussions between the parties.

The Oluyole Warriors confirmed the decision in an official club statement, saying the discussions resulted in an amicable agreement to bring the working relationship to an end. The announcement comes as the club prepares for the 2025/26 season and a return to continental competition in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Shooting Stars thanked Aweroro and the other two members of the technical team for their commitment, professionalism and contributions during their time at the club.

The trio were also recognised for their role in helping Shooting Stars finish third in the 2025/26 NPFL season. That result secured the club’s return to continental football and represented a significant achievement for the Oluyole Warriors.

The club did not announce a replacement for Aweroro. Instead, the assistant coaches who remain at Shooting Stars have been instructed to oversee the Technical Department on an interim basis while the club considers its options and works towards appointing a new head coach.

Shooting Stars said further developments would be communicated in due course.

The managerial change leaves the club preparing for the new campaign under an interim arrangement, with the CAF Confederation Cup forming part of the immediate challenge ahead. The next appointment will therefore come with responsibility for maintaining the progress achieved in the previous NPFL season while also overseeing the team’s return to African competition.

Aweroro’s departure follows a campaign in which Shooting Stars secured a third-place finish in the NPFL and earned qualification for continental football. The club’s statement placed emphasis on the positive contribution made by the outgoing technical team, while confirming that the decision to separate was reached by mutual agreement rather than through a unilateral dismissal.

For now, responsibility rests with the remaining assistant coaches. They will lead the Technical Department until a permanent head coach is appointed, leaving Shooting Stars to continue preparations for both domestic action and their CAF Confederation Cup campaign during the transition.

The Oluyole Warriors have not provided a timetable for the appointment of Aweroro’s successor. The club has said only that more information will be released as the process develops.
