Vinicius Junior to meet Jose Mourinho in key Real Madrid future talks

Vinicius Junior is set to hold a decisive meeting with Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid officials when he returns from holiday, with the discussions expected to clarify whether the Brazil forward intends to remain at the Spanish club.
The 25-year-old is due to arrive in the Spanish capital on Sunday evening and will begin working under Mourinho the following day. According to Spanish newspaper AS, Vinicius will first tell Mourinho, and then the club’s representatives, what he wants for the immediate future. The meeting will also address the situation surrounding his contract, which has 11 months remaining.
A new agreement would effectively secure Vinicius’ continuation at Real Madrid. However, if the two sides fail to reach a settlement, a departure could become a realistic possibility.
Both Real Madrid and the player have continued to indicate that the intention is to agree fresh terms. Nevertheless, the situation remains unresolved and neither side knows whether its position will change before the face-to-face meeting takes place.
Real Madrid are not aware of any interest from Arsenal, despite strong speculation linking the English club with Vinicius over the past seven days. There have been no official contacts between Arsenal and the player, while Vinicius’ representatives deny that any agreement has been reached with the European runners-up.
The Spanish club remains calm because of the signals Vinicius sent during their most recent communications. Real Madrid officials have placed particular trust in the player’s latest comments, during which he expressed a desire to continue at the club.
However, AS reports that Real Madrid’s contract offer is not expected to change, or at least not to the level demanded by Vinicius. His representatives told the newspaper in February 2025, following interest from Saudi Arabia, that an agreement had been very close to being signed.
The deal was never completed, and circumstances have since allowed 18 months to pass without the Brazilian signing a new contract.
Real Madrid now want Vinicius to make his position clear. If he no longer wishes to renew, the club expects him to say so, allowing its officials to assess the transfer market and identify the best possible replacement or alternative solution.
The forthcoming meeting is intended to establish whether either side has altered its stance. The dispute has been primarily financial, with both the player and the club seeking a clearer understanding of what the other wants.
Vinicius is also aware of how previous high-profile contract confrontations with Real Madrid ended. Sergio Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria all eventually left the club after major disputes or uncertainty surrounding their futures.
The issue has now moved beyond the question of whether Real Madrid should improve or adjust its offer. The club wants to understand what Vinicius genuinely intends, independently of any potential moves made by his agents.
The forward has remained closely aligned with his representatives and appears to have a strong relationship and broad agreement with them. Real Madrid’s priority is therefore to hear his position directly before deciding how to proceed with one of the most important unresolved matters in the squad.
