Nigerian youngster Chibueze Izuogu has opened up about his set-piece abilities and revealed the influence of Tottenham’s James Maddison on his free-kick technique.
The 19-year-old midfielder, currently on loan at CSF Spartanii in Moldova, expressed admiration for Maddison’s style, noting similarities in their methods of executing free kicks.
Izuogu made headlines last year for his stellar performances with the Flying Eagles at the African Games in Ghana, where he scored an incredible free-kick against Senegal in a thrilling 3-2 defeat that saw the team knocked out.
“I have been watching a lot of players take free kicks, but I love Maddison,” Izuogu told Pulse Sports, reflecting on his memorable goal.
“We have a similar technique. I always practice; after training in the morning, I practice every evening.”
He continued, “There are many free-kick takers, but Maddison and I have similarities, and he’s very good as well. I try to copy his technique and add it to mine. It’s helping me.”
“Watching him has shown me different techniques and how to approach free kicks,” he added.
