Wydad reach final agreement to sign Jordan midfielder Nizar Al-Rashdan

Wydad Athletic Club have reached a final agreement with Jordanian defensive midfielder Nizar Al-Rashdan, paving the way for him to formally join the Moroccan side during the current summer transfer window.

The proposed move is intended to add depth to Wydad’s squad before the club begins its domestic and continental commitments. Al-Rashdan’s arrival would represent a new step in a career that has taken him across several leagues in the Middle East and Asia.

The 27-year-old is regarded as an experienced player in Asian and Gulf football, having represented six different clubs over the past five years. His career has included spells in the Iraqi, Jordanian, Emirati, Bahraini and Qatari leagues.

Al-Rashdan’s recent career has been marked by frequent moves between clubs. He began the sequence with Iraqi side Nawroz, before going on to play for Jordanian club Al-Faisaly, Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates, Bahraini club Al-Khaldiya and Iraqi giants Al-Zawraa.

His most recent destination was Qatar SC, from where he is now set to move towards his first experience of Moroccan football. Wydad would become the seventh professional club of his career.

The midfielder’s periods with his previous sides have generally been relatively short. His longest stays lasted six months, recorded during spells with Al-Faisaly, Emirates Club and Qatar SC. He spent only four months with Nawroz, underlining the rapid movement that has characterised his professional journey.

That pattern of transfers has seen Al-Rashdan take on challenges in a number of different football environments. His move to Wydad would bring him into a new league and provide the club with another option in defensive midfield as it prepares for a demanding campaign.

Wydad’s agreement with the Jordan international comes as the club looks to broaden the choices available to its coaching staff. The Moroccan side is expected to face strong competition on both the domestic and continental fronts next season, increasing the importance of squad depth across the campaign.

Although the agreement has been reached, Al-Rashdan’s move remains subject to his formal arrival at the club. Once completed, he will begin his first professional spell in Morocco after spending the past five years moving between teams in Iraq, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar.

For Wydad, the deal represents a fresh attempt to reinforce the squad ahead of the summer’s recruitment activity and the challenges that await across multiple competitions. For Al-Rashdan, it offers the opportunity to start a new chapter at the seventh club of his career.
