Edna Imade wins Spanish Liga F Player of December 2024

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward Edna Imade has been voted the best player of the month for December 2024 in the Liga F.

She is the second top scorer in the league behind FC Barcelona’s Ewa Pajor.

Granada striker Imade is one of the sensations of the Spanish Liga F, and her recent feat as the best player in the league in December confirms this.

With nine goals scored in the league so far this season, she occupies second place in the table of top scorers, placed between Barcelona players Ewa Pajor (10 goals) and Alexia Putellas (8 goals).

Sixth on the table, the Granada team, managed by the young Arturo Ruiz, also stands out as the revelation of the season so far.

Much of the success story of the team can be attributed to the stunning form of Edna Imade, who has scored nine of the 20 goals scored by Granada in Liga F.

In other words, 45% of the goals scored by the red-and-whites have been scored by her.

In addition, the Nigerian forward has scored on one occasion and assisted on another in the Copa de la Reina, specifically in the round of 16 in which the Granada team won 4-2 against Sevilla.

Thus, her performance was extraordinary in the final stretch of 2024, in which she scored in five consecutive games, from November 16 against Levante Badalona to December 21 against Sevilla in the Cup.

These figures have allowed Edna to win the vote for best player of December in the Spanish Liga F ahead of Amaiur Sarriegi (Real Sociedad), Jone Amezaga (Athletic), Signe Bruun (Real Madrid), Esmee Brugts (Barcelona), Romane Salvador (Espanyol) and Andrea Álvarez (Eibar).

Imade took over the award from previous winners, Rasheedat Ajibade (Atlético), Alexia Putellas (Barcelona), and Patri Guijarro (Barcelona) from September, October, and November, respectively.

Edna Imade’s good form is attributed to Granada’s current position on the log, which is sixth in the standings with 19 points from 13 games.

As the Spanish Liga F campaign continues in January 2025 after the New Year break, the superb form of Imade will be key in helping Granada sustain their league status after avoiding relegation at the end of their debut season in the Spanish women’s top flight during the 2023/2024 season.

She is eligible to play for Nigeria and Spain but is yet to decide on her international allegiance, which will be made known in the coming months.
