Melbourne City FC have confirmed the signing of Nigerian international Chinaza Uchendu ahead of the 2025/26 A-League Women’s season.

The 27-year-old forward joins from French side Nantes, bringing a wealth of experience from top-flight football across Europe and Asia.

Uchendu’s career includes title-winning success with Galatasaray in Turkey, as well as spells in Portugal, Sweden, South Korea, and her native Nigeria.

On the international stage, Uchendu has earned 10 caps for the Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, playing a key role in Super Falcons’ triumph at the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and featuring in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where the team reached the Round of 16.

Known for her versatility, she is capable of operating as a striker, winger, or attacking midfielder, offering valuable depth to Michael Matricciani’s squad as Melbourne City prepare for another campaign on both domestic and continental fronts.

“It’s an honour to join a Club with such a strong reputation and commitment to excellence.” Uchendu said.

“I’m excited to embrace this new challenge and help bring more silverware to Melbourne City.

“I’ve heard wonderful things about the Club’s culture and professionalism, and everyone has been incredibly welcoming so far. I can’t wait to wear the City jersey and start contributing on the pitch.”

Uchendu becomes Melbourne City’s latest high-profile addition as the club looks to build on its ambitions for 2025/26.
